Keith Berson. I have a problem with my Outlook - after a while, receiving emails slows to a crawl, where it eventually starts downloading emails at a couple of bytes at a time. The only way I've found to fix it is to reboot my system.

I've been searching the web but not found any solutions that seem to apply. Most solutions refer to issues with Exchange, but this is my home machine and doesn't apply. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Hope that helps. Thank you. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I'm not sure what happened, but the next day all the mail was there and I have not had a problem since. I'm having the same problem. My e-mail downloaded all messages fine yesterday morning at , but has not been able to complete the process since. It is downloading at a crawl. It is a POP account and I was able to go online to my provider and delete any messages with attachments to make sure that this wasn't causing the problem.

I closed Outlook and reopened it. The number of messages downloaded updated to the correct new amount, but still a crawl. Outlook was operating well except for email downloads, gradually bogged down over a week to being unusable.

Followed all the instructions I could find, short of a clean boot, no change. Finally, using jv16 Power Tools, cleaned and compacted the registry, cleaned out dead files, etc, and rebooted. Outlook fired up, slow, but email download was full speed. Realised I had turned off hardware acceleration, unticked the box in Advanced Settings, now it is flying. Using any registry cleaner can have unintended consequences, in the worst case can cause programs or win to cease functioning.
